Friendship bank in our school.

The United Nations Anti-Bullying Day took place on 4 May. People who are bullied are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety. They might lose interest in the activities they enjoy, avoid spending time with other people and not go to classes or school, which has a negative effect on their learning. The message is that bullying is never OK.

Trying to prevent these aspects in our school, and coordinate with the psychologist from our school, a group of students from Secondary started at the beginning or the the course a special action called FRIENDSHIP BANK. The students are in charge of ensuring that all those students who need  can come to the friendship bank during break time and share their concerns, always are under the supervision of the school psychologist. They usually have systematic meetings with her and talk about how we can help students who have some type of need during the course, above all we take care of listening to them during recess hours.

The friendship bank is a place where boys and girls who suffer from problems or bullying are helped by a group of children who are committed to attending to the needs of others and thus make them feel accompanied instead of alone.

Kyra Sarakosti or Lady Lent

"Sarakosti" is a period before Easter in the Greek Orthodox Lenten Tradition.

Kyra Sarakosti or Lady Lent is an old Greek custom.

It is a type of calendar that people had in older times to count the weeks from Clean (Ash) Monday to Easter Sunday!

Lady Lent has seven feet. They represent the seven weeks of Lent. Each passing week, on each Saturday, children get to break off one foot. This is a great visual way to count down the weeks until Easter.

She is in a praying position and she hasn't got a mouth because she does not talk and eat during this period, she hasn't got any ears because she doesn't hear during this time.

After the last foot is cut off, it is tradition to place this foot in a bowl with fruits and nuts and whoever finds it receives a special blessing.

Ingredients of Kyra Sarakosti

2-2 1/2 cups flour

1/2 cup salt

2-2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

water (as much as needed)

decorations as you wish

* Not to be eaten! *

Concert lesson about string instruments

 Written by Alessandro S., Lorenzo S., Ikhlase L., Domenico G., Flavio A., Daniel C.

On 4th March Davide Mocini, a guitarist and lutenist, came to an ex monastery in Sestri Levante to tell the students of our school the history of string instruments and to explain the evolution and development in the last four centuries.

The musician explained the various differences and how the technique of approaching the performance has changed, the different ways of plucking the strings, proposing, for each of them, some pieces and also exposing very particular curiosities, such as the different writing of the notes on the scores . “It is clear that the instrument that attracts  most of the attention” – he added – "is the electric guitar, which is nowadays language  and it is a completely different instrument from the other three on which we are carrying out important work to revive them. Getting into these repertoires is very difficult for a person who has never heard them before. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of listening education to enter this type of world."

Davide Mocini has a diploma in classical guitar and lute, plays in a Renaissance trio and continues further in his studies on the baroque lute. He composes songs with the Renaissance lute which he often combines with the electric guitar, contaminating, without altering, the original atmosphere of that distant world.
